Movement for Actors
Movement for Actors
THE WORK
In connecting to the body through movement, we connect to the deepest part of who we are - the place in us from which our creativity as artists springs. Movement allows for open, honest and spontaneous connection to both ourselves and others.
Momentum will help you to:
- Explore the power of the body as a creative tool and as the harbinger of emotional material
- Set the stage for internal awareness and the spontaneous flow of impulses through action
- Investigate the use of the actor's imagination and voice in conjunction with movement to connect the body, mind and creative self
- Take physical and vocal risks that translate directly to scripted work and character development
BACKGROUND
For the past 30 years, Ebba-Marie Gendron has worked as an actor both in Los Angeles and New York. Her New York credits include work at the Raft Theatre, Theatre of the Open Eye and the Vineyard Theater. Here in Los Angeles, she has worked in both theatre and in film. She has had a long-standing relationship with Sal Romeo and the Friends and Artists Studio as both an actor and teacher. She has an extensive movement background that includes training in the work of Jerzy Grotowski, as well as training in dance, yoga, Suzuki/Viewpoints and a Masters degree in dance/movement therapy. Ebba-Marie has combined these forms to develop her own unique movement-for-actors training method.
TESTIMONIALS
"Ebba-Marie Gendron has a gift - an ability to introduce actors to their body, mind, and emotional connection that can only come from thousands of hours of work on her own instrument, advanced academic studies, and a deep and precise intuition. She is one of the best of the best. I am honored to have worked with her." - Sal Romeo, Director and Teacher
"Ebba-Marie's teaching and exploration of body movement is extraordinary. She brings such a gentleness and ease to her work that can be a deep and explosive investigation for actors. She has a peaceful way to take you through great, sometimes scary, adventures in your whole body. I've worked with Ebba, and when I brought her in to teach at one of my workshops, all the actors were able to open up to a deeper level than they had been able to before. For actors to be fully developed, they must explore their bodies." - Judy Kerr, Teacher and Author "Acting is Everything"
"Ebba's techniques and openness has helped me free my body up more than ever before, unlocking creative channels to a new level. With her perceptiveness and heart, she is both an inspiration and a joy to learn from."
Chuti Tiu - Actor, "How to Get Away with Murder," "Nashville," "The Internship"
"Ebba is an amazingly caring individual. Her movement class is a place where the student can feel safe to take chances and be vulnerable. I've seen first hand the impact that her classes have on her students. They will come out of them not only better actors but also better people."
Oscar Torre - Director and Actor, "The Have and Have Nots," "The Boatman," "Ladron que Roba a Ladron," "Cane"
"Ebba-Marie Gendron is a brilliant, exceptionally talented teacher. Beyond that, she is one of the most respectful and genuinely caring people I have ever met. She honors the work and progress of each student and meets him or her on their level, creating a safe space for what can be a very challenging process. I have not only grown tremendously in my acting ability and body work, I have become a better person because of Ebba's love, support and example." - Casey West - Actor
